Cool (warm?) protection for your iPod

This is a decidedly low-tech gadget, but they're pretty cool: iPod Socks. They'll provide scratch and scrape protection for your iPod, and keep it cozy and warm, too. They come in a pack of six, so go in on these with your friends.

Amazon has the iPod Socks at a discounted price.

Belkin TuneDok: iPod holder for your car

Have an iPod? Have a cupholder? then the Belin TuneDok is for you. I just bought one of these and I'm glad I did. I already used my iPod in the car a lot, playing the music through one of those fake cassette tapes with a mini jack on the end of a cable. The only problem is that my iPod either has to sit on the passenger seat, or on the floor (it always slides off the center console!!).

The TuneDok sits right in the cupholder on my center console. The iPod sits in the TuneDok at a convenient viewing angle, gripped by a large suction cup. It comes with adapters so you can get a snug fit in just about any cupholder.

Belkin makes a separate model for the iPod Mini, too.

The retail price on these is $29.99 (that's what I paid online at the Apple Store), but Amazon has them right now for just $14.44.

Altec Lansing INMOTION iPod Portable Speaker System

I know this isn't a terribly new item, but my step-son just got one for his iPod as a gift, and it's terrific! The sound generated by this tiny package is full and clear. The unit folds easily for carrying, and it is the perfect dock for your iPod (they make a separate model for iPod Minis).

If you plug the unit in, it will recharge your iPod, and you can connect the InMotion to your Mac for syncing. It also has an audio-in connector so you can play other music through it (from a Walkman or portable CD player, for example). You could even use it as a sound system for watching DVDs on your Powerbook, just about anywhere!

We haven't performed any endurance tests, but the official line says you can get 24 hours of music out of four AA batteries.

Amazon currently has a good deal on this item.

About iPodGadgetry

iPodGadgetry is a technology web log ("blog") focused on equipment and software which enhances the experience of using Apple's wonderful MP3 player, the iPod.

This blog was spawned from the MacGadgetry blog when I discovered that as many as half of the posts to what was supposed to be a Mac-oriented blog were about the iPod! I've copied over all of the iPod-related posts to give this new blog a jump start.

We are dedicated to the concept of something new every day, but there are no guarantees.

Paul Wren is the editor, and he's looking for someone to help him.

iPodGadgetry is a publication of Kactus Digital.
