Griffin SmartDeck: Cassette Adapter for iPod
I already use a cassette deck adapter for my iPod when I drive (the audio quality is soooo much better than the FM transmitters I've tried)... I think it's a Sony model I bought at Target. It's worked great, but it looks like it's headed for the junk pile.Griffin has announced what it calls a "Cassette Adapter with a Brain" called the SmartDeck. It does something I had never imagined might be possible: It allows you to control your iPod with the buttons on your car stereo. What does that mean, exactly? Here goes: - Fast Forward and Rewind buttons cause the iPod to advance to next or prior tracks
- Stop and Pause do just that
- Turn off the power, switch to FM, or Eject: the iPod pauses
There's another cool feature: SmartDeck adjusts the volume of your iPod to the optimal level for good audio quality.Even better, it sells (Okay, pre-sells) for about the same price as "DumbDecks": $24.99.(from Engadget)
Jabra Music/Cell Phone Combo Headset
I've been waiting for this for years (shoulda taken out a patent!): A headset that you can use for listening to your tunes, and just leave it on to use your phone hands-free! The Jabra C120s plugs directly into your mobile phone, and includes an adapter to also connect a stereo mini jack (like the one you would use for your iPod). The headset has an in-line mic and a clothing clip. The C120s headset has EarGels, removable fitted attachments to secure a good in-ear fit, which Jabra said offers better stereo sound. The C120s is an "in ear" design, and they also offer a behind-the-ear model: the C220s.The C120s retails for $29.95, the C220s is $34.95.(from MacCentral)
iBoom Boom Box for iPod
I think I need one of these. DLO (Digital Lifestyle Outfitters) has introduced a 20 watts-per-channel boom box for your iPod, called the iBoom (imagine that). The iBoom provides a dock for any dock-connector iPod or iPod Mini, and also has a built-in FM tuner. It sports a handle for easy transport, and can run off of six "D" batteries or an A/C adapter.
The iBoom is available from Everything iPod for $149.
Belkin Tunebase for iPod Mini: No Wires!
Look Ma-- no wires! The Belkin TuneBase FM for iPod Mini is the ultimate way to use your iPod mini while you drive. The TuneBase plugs into your DC power outlet (aka cigarette lighter) , and provides a secure mount for your Mini. The flexible steel arm allows you nearly infinite positioning options, and the built-in FM transmitter sends the tunes to your car stereo.Belkin also makes a model without the FM transmitter which is cheaper, but of course it requires a wire to get your music from the iPod to your stereo.
Both are available at Apple's iPod Store.
