iPod Shuffle Dock (with a bonus)

Belkin has announced a new dock for the iPod Shuffle which doubles as a USB 2.0 hub!

They're actually calling it a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub, but that fourth connector just happens to point straight up out of the center of the hub... which isn't necessarily there for a Shuffle, of course. I mean, you could connect a thumb drive, a USB fan, a mug warmer-- you name it!

It comes with an A/C power adapter, but it can be used with up to two devices without the power cord.

It's not available yet, but when it is, you can get it for $39.99.

It also provides some cool database-type info, such as: Track names on the album, a link to the album review, and a catalog of other albums by the artist.

On your Mac you can drag & drop album cover art from Album Cover Finder to iTunes (or use cut/paste if you are using MS Windows).

You can download a lite version of Album Cover Finder, or purchase the complete version for just $6.

JBL On Stage Speaker System and Dock

Yes, there are a lot of speaker systems out there for the iPod. JBL's version, the On Stage iPod Docking Speaker System, is nice for its compactness, its decent sound, and the fact that it doubles as a docking station (you can connect the On Stage directly to your Mac to sync the iPod).

The On Stage is AC-powered, provides 6 watts per channel, and looks cool, to boot. It works with the iPod and the iPod Mini, but will not work with the iPod Photo.

On Stage retails for $159.95, but Amazon has it right now for just $100.64.

EarJams Make Your iPod Earbuds Better

Not sure how I missed these before... because I've needed them for some time. Griffin Technology has these great attachments to Apple's standard Earbuds which greatly improve your listening: they're called EarJams.

When I fly on commercial aircraft, I always bring my PowerBook along to work watch movies. Durring quiet portions of a film, I often find myself jamming my earbuds further into my ears jsut to be able to hear dialog. Similarly, I have trouble hearing music fully when exercising, since the earbuds never stay completely seated in place.

Grifin EarJams change all that. Easily snapping onto your existing Apple earbuds, EarJams provide "massive bass and improved sound," fit better, and are more comfortable. They also help to reduce the intrusion of outside noise into your listening experience.

Note that EarJams are not compatible with the earbuds which shipped with 1st and 2nd generation iPods.

EarJams retail for $14.99, but you can get them from Amazon for just $9.99.

UPDATE: I purchased a pair of these, and I love them. For a limited time, Amazon has them on sale for just $7.99.

Free Games at iPod Arcade

The Unofficial Apple Weblog clued us in to a place where you can get free games for your iPod: the iPod Arcade.

The Arcade claims to be the one-stop shop for all iPod games. They have Notes games and Arcade Games, all free of chage and ready for download. They have games available for all generations of iPods and Minis, excluding the Shuffle.

I was pleasantly surprised at the games available for my 3rd generation iPod:
  • Blue Cube (Tetris)
  • Othello
  • Pong
  • Steroids
  • Mines
  • Castle Quest (and other adventures)
  • ...and oodles of trivia games
Installing arcade games requires first installing Podzilla.

Griffin iVault Aluminum Case for Shuffle

Griffin Technology has been busy lately. They've announced a protective case for the iPod Shuffle called the iVault. It's made entirely of aluminum, and safely encloses a Shuffle while still allowing access to the control wheel, the audio jack, the on switch, and the USB port. You can still see the LED, too.

The iVault is installed by securing the two halves together around your iPod Shuffle with four tiny screws (the idea is that you keep the case on at all times). Even so, the combined weight of the Shuffle and the iVault is only 1.5 ounces.

I found it cool that it not only comes in natural aluminum, but also in three colors (blue, purple, and red).

The iVault can be preordered now for $29.99.
