Apple Enters Home Audio Market
Apple Computer today announced the new iPod HiFi, which they refer to as "Home Stereo. Reinvented."One of the largest (and most expensive) iPod charging docks ever made, the iPod Hifi also includes a complete amplified speaker system. And with the Apple remote, you can control your iPod from across the room (although it will probably be difficult to read the display on your iPod). In addition to the iPod dock connector on the top, there is an analog audio jack on the rear of the unit for connecting an iPod shuffle. It is also portable! You can plug it into an outlet, or run it on 6 "D" batteries.Get one now (with free shipping) at the Apple Store for just $349 .
Save your outdated iPod peripherals
Battery Technology International (BTI) is about to start shipping an accessory that puts new life into your iPod peripherals: the u-Link.If you have a new iPod, but your old peripherals used the iPod Remote connector (which Apple eliminated on the iPod nano and the 5G iPod), you can use them again. The u-Link connects to the Dock connector, and then provides a headphone jack and a remote jack. One short-coming: BTI says it will not work with voice input devices such as the Griffin iTalk or the Belkin Voice Recorder.Get one for $27 from We Love Macs.
Carbon Fiber Goodness for your iPod
C6 Manufacturing makes two sweet carbon fiber cases-- one for the iPod nano, and the other for the 5th generation iPod (with video). These cases are made from real aerospace carbon fiber, aluminum, and stainless steel screws. They also include a stainless steel belt clip, a protective clear cling-on screen protector, and an assembly tool. The nano case is $39.95, and the 5G cases (there's one for each size) are $49.95.
Take your iPod nano for a ride!
If you have a nano and like to ride your bike, then the iBikeMount is for you. Once you clamp the mount to your handlebar (it works on a number of handle bar sizes), you can quickly and safely secure your nano to your ride. It works equally well on your home exercise equipment. They plan to begin shipping the iBikeMount on March 15th, and will sell for $30. Sign up to be notified when they're ready for order.
